Emily: "This."

Panel 2:
Mikey reaches for the paper.

Panel 3:
He reads over it.

Panel 4:
He frowns.
Mikey Hernandez: "Sorry, señorita. This is not something I can parse."

Panel 5:
Emily takes the paper back from Mikey, disappointed. He leans on the counter towards her.
Emily: "You really can’t read it?"
Mikey: "With something this complex, you’d need a master spellcrafter."

Panel 6:
A sepia-toned flashback scene depicts the silhouettes of spellcrafters, their backs turned on the skyline of New York City as the specter of Amendment 18 floats in.
Mikey, in narration: "But with the passing of Prohibition..."
Mikey, in narration, continued: "Many of the master spellcrafters left America to keep their jobs in Canada and Europe."

I promise I am trying to be more consistent with posting the Issue 4 pages! It's been a little tough to keep up with cutting up the pages and getting the new pages ready to post up. Plus, I've  actually been working on Black Ball Issue 5!

I've been keeping track of my progress in this nifty progress tracker that I've been using as I work through the new issue and get a better sense of how long it takes me to put together a page and get through the book, because when you're working on comics day in and day out, it's easy to forget where you are and how you got there! I've been talking a lot about my progress and sharing some pages and panels from the new book in my Substack!

Keep up with all the latest on my Substack Newsletter! This is where I share every week what I'm working on, thinking about, how I approach comics and paintings, and more! You'll always be in the loop when you subscribe!
