Panel 1:
Emily, quickly puts away the letter back into the suitcase, looking pensive.
Emily, thinking: “This has got to be something.”

Panel 2:
Emily is coming down the staircase. Mrs. Trent stands at the bottom, looks up and shouts.
Mrs. Trent: "Emily! Hurry! What were you doing up there?!"

Panel 3:
Emily is at the bottom of the stairs. Her mother comes around the banister to meet her. She’s annoyed at her daughter.
Mrs. Trent: "Mr. Glover has stayed for dinner!"
Emily: "Why’s he here?"
Mrs. Trent: "Emily! Don’t be rude!"

Panel 4:
The Trents’ dining room. Mr. Glover sits at one end, gesturing while speaking to Mr. Trent. Emily is seated at the side, distractedly poking at her food.

Panel 5:
A cutaway panel shows Emily’s wide, distressed eye.
Emily, thinking: "Amelia’s death. It’s gotta be something more."
Mr. Glover: "Emily?"

Panel 6
Mr. Arnold Glover looks at Emily with a solemn, empathetic expression. Her father, Mr. Trent, looks on sternly, silently urging her to behave.
Mr. Glover: "I hope you’ll be alright. I know this is hard."
