Panel 1:
Maude begins her flashback, explaining what has taken place. Behind her, a scene forms of a red-haired woman, Olive, standing near a table, raising her glass with a playful expression. Other women in elegant attire sit around the table, sipping drinks. The room is adorned with luxurious red drapery.. The background shows a fancy dinner scene with elegantly dressed women sitting at a table, engaged in conversation.

Maude: "It was Olive Lansdbury’s birthday party. We were just supposed to have dinner at the Plaza."

Maude, continued: "But Olive was feeling adventurous."

Panel 2:
Maude, nervously clutching her purse, as the group of women travels into a back ally.

Maude, narration: "She wanted us to go to the best party in town."

Panel 3:
A dimly lit entrance to a secret speakeasy. Olive whispers to a sharply dressed man at the door, who crosses his arms.

Maude, Narration: "A speakeasy she knew of..."

Panel 4:
A grand, luxurious ballroom with a glowing chandelier and flowing curtains. The room is filled with elegantly dressed guests, dancing and laughing under a purple-hued light. A live jazz band plays on stage. In the foreground, a charming man in a suit smiles, extending his hand as if inviting someone inside.

Maude, narration: "...The Black Ball."
